On my way to Bloggerfest

The Girl Scouts got me when I stopped for gas and another cup of coffee. I swear there is something in those cookies that is addicting. I've been an easy touch ever since I sold them when I was in 2nd grade. And that was at least a few years ago.

Onward to the Q!

BLOGGERFEST IS COMING!!!!

From Lorne and Sue’s blog:

Todays blog is going to provide a nudge to everyone concerning BLOGGER FEST 2017.  Remember it is this Saturday from 1 to 5 at the Pavilion at South La Posa.  If you get to the gate we will have it marked from there on.  The GPS coordinates are 33.62478   114.2115.  You don't have to write a blog to come.  Even if you just read blogs of the RVers, come down and meet them in person.  There is such a wide variety of people doing blogs and they all will share their time with you.  Can I ask any of you bloggers out there to post the following on their blogs to let everyone know it is happening.  Thank you and see you there.

I’ll be there early.  I have the previous signs in the trunk of my car.  Hope to see EVERYONE there!

More solar cooking plans

I posted a fuzzy picture from a seminar at RTR about a home made solar cooker.  One of the presenters later posted a link to a large number of different DIY solar cooker plans.

solar cooker instructions

If you go to Main Page it gives a lot of information on the state of solar cooking as it is now.  The previous link is an archive link.  I had the question of ‘but does it work?’ and the answer is YES.  The simple one I took the picture of was up to around 200* in the time it took to make her talk.  An enclosed oven style (made from a box) will get to 300*, and a commercial built one will get higher.

Heat

It has been chilly here. My electric radiator heater died last night. I ran to Walmart and got this little ceramic heater with a fan to send the heat out. My cold feet approve. I may get a new radiator as it is a safer option, and probably cheaper on electricity. For now I'm enjoying my new best friend.

Home made solar oven

One of the seminars at the RTR. Two turkey roasting bags, something black that is not flammable to set it on, a rack to hold it up a bit from the black stuff for air flow, and a windshield sun shade. Even I can make that.

Early morning RTR

I'm at the Rubber Tramp Rendezvous in Quartzsite. The morning session hasn't started yet. I got up at 4am to drive over here to meet some of the folks I've followed from Bob Wells blog on van living. I met one of them so far. The day is young yet.

Don't forget Bloggerfest

Just a quick reminder about bloggerfest on January 28th. I'm hoping lots of us who have blogs will show up to talk face to face and become or renew friendships in what some call 'real life' . The couple hosting it blog at http://aplacecalledaway.blogspot.com and they will hopefully post the location outside of Quartzsite once they know it.

Lunch

Sandie and Jim invited me to join them and our friend Paul for a ride up to Superior to get hamburgers at Porters Cafe. I agreed with them that the burgers are worth the 50 mile drive each way. Don't be in a hurry when you walk in, the place is local and the food is fresh cooked. If a group of motorcyclists is already there in the outdoor courtyard the 2 cooks will be busy. It is worth waiting for, though.

Rest in Peace, Rod

I lost someone I considered a good friend yesterday.  Rod Ivers lost his battle with cancer.  He is hopefully back with his wife, Loyce.  May they both rest in peace now.

Got my Golden Buzzard pass

I stopped by Montezuma Castle and bought my lifetime senior pass to National Parks. We affectionately refer to it as the Golden Buzzard pass, which is how I asked for it. The ranger knew what I wanted. He reminded me that it goes up to $80 at some future date not yet specified. I actually bought 2 and I will put one away as if I lose the card I would have to buy another one at the new full price. The monument was as crowded as I've ever seen it. Lots of tourists out on a cloudy chilly New Years day.
